about
Another original song composed by my brother, the late Bill Yates... pulled off an archive cassette and developed into a Yates brothers recording :-) Thanks to our Dad, the late Sid Yates, of northern Ontario bluegrass fame, for sitting Bill down to record 3 original songs, of which this is the second one I've posted on Bandcamp.
released July 26, 2017
Bill A. Yates on acoustic guitar (almost certainly the fine Guild acoustic he holds in the displayed picture) and singing melody. Harmony and all other instrumentation: Larry J.S. Yates. Thanks to David Hoffman for the short sample I grabbed and used around the 35 second mark, to suggest fiddle music from pioneers. It's from David's You Tube posting entitled, "The Best Mountain Fiddler I Ever Heard". The 2 second sample was from a 1964 recording he made of a fellow called, "Lost John the Fiddling Man" who lived way back up in the back-country around Madison County, North Carolina
Streaming tales of spirits in the light
Caught my eyes while I was spinning 'round
But when the sun is set and all is night
I've been left standing ten feet off the ground
Trails of wagon trains and pioneers of old
Linger in my thoughts from day to day
Hidden treasures of stories yet untold
Always have a place in mind to play
Seems 'you've got me now, on the run
'Can't keep track of places where I've been
And in the time of all things said and done
I"m trying to find my way back home again
I don't want to turn away
From the things my heart calls true
When I hear you calling me
'Seems as though I've better things to do
Streaming tales of spirits in the light

But when the sun is set and all is night
I've been left standing ten feet off the ground
