LADY ORANGE IN THE EVENING ©1971 AT THE GATE PUBLISHING SOCAN The stars whisper secrets in the twilight Telling of her beauty in the even fading light Hypnotized by her the hazy moon rises Lady Orange in the evening In your flowing gown and lace You come forth as sunlight's leaving Glowing candles show your face Dressed in draping tangerine She's a woman to be seen Dancing while she sings a song Will she sing the evening long I've been waiting all my life To find a girl like you Will I say, "You are my wife"? Tell me. Will you be true? Do you linger in silent expectancy Of a long awaited handsome man Do you dream of being swept off your feet Do you sing of holding hands Will you answer me tonight Say before morning's light You've been here for far too long Soon you'll feel that something’s wrong Stretch your arms out Take my hand I'll take you away Take my name My golden band Just so that you'll stay

HER NAME IS JUDY ©1971 AT THE GATE PUBLISHING SOCAN I don't know where she came from and I don't know where she's gone to. I only know her name is Judy And her eyes are blue. If she'd given me more time I could tell you the colour of her soul, But I only know her name is Judy And her eyes are blue. One cool night I noticed her... Lord I ain't no saint, but I hate to see a young girl cry. She ignored me when I spoke And she looked so sad 'Couldn't help myself; I wondered why. There seemed to be nothing I could do To bring her around again It was nine; we just walked along 'till ten. I took her to see my old friends; After gentle coaxing we drank coffee And I sang a while She watched the baby laughing 'Till I heard her say, "My name is Judy" And start to smile. Then I walked her to the subway's gate And she was gone with, "Goodbye." 'Don't know which train she went on. Well, I guess you owe me nothing 'Cause I've seen you smiling twice, But I often wonder How the sun plays in your eyes.

DIRTY MEN AND BEGGARS ©1970 AT THE GATE PUBLISHING SOCAN Someone just told me that You bought and sold me for My weight in gold Now where do you stand? ...Can I still hold your hand? You can love dirty men, 'You can love beggars; You can love men with no name. You loved me as each of them. 'Now that I'm none of them... Can you still love me the same? Many days I've spent alone, Staring at bedroom walls. Sunlight's never shone upon those Dark and dingy halls! Who'd think 'this land's made of Cracked paint and plaster Laid decades ago? Now should I be ashamed, And should somebody be blamed?

I TRIED LOVE AGAIN ©1971 AT THE GATE PUBLISHING/SOCAN Rock and roll bands come and go As the snow falls, then goes again. "Police" was no exception July came and saw the end. 'Joined a Christian commune soon. 'Prayed and pondered love again. Jesus led me to the blue eyed Woman there in Grand Bend. House of Rahab, you blessed me Your sharing set my heart aglow. Your burning sandy beaches Outreaches and undertow Will live on within my thoughts But one thing will always show… That special feeling for the fair-haired Girl I'd come to know. Well, I tried love again So sigh, "Love" again. Ah love! Now has all been said and done? Have we left our old happiness? To get on that full break-up train Is such a mess. But we can be comforted; Can be filled with thankfulness, 'Cause Jesus stays beside us now To save us from our loneliness. Sigh that word… Ah love!

THOSE WHO DARE ©1966 AT THE GATE PUBLISHING SOCAN I don't care who holds her tight tonight. And I don't care who tries to treat her right 'Cause I've got her love forever Which no one else can share And I know she'll leave me never So coax her those who dare So coax her those who dare I don't scare to see her getting eyes And I don't scare to see her old goodbyes Why should I feel jealous and blue When she holds me tight The look in her eyes She'll love me forever We'll always be happy it's true!

WHO AM I GOING TO THANK ©1971 AT THE GATE PUBLISHING SOCAN Who am I going to thank For that far away feeling that you give me And who am I going to thank For that new way of living that you bring me Is it wrong Is it wrong Is it wrong No it's true Where am I going to go When I finally hear those trumpets blowing And where am I going to be When I finally get to where I'm going Who am I going to see When I reach my promised destination And who am I going to see When I'm lifted from this desecration And who am I going to thank And where am I going to go And where am I going to be And who am I going to see

AT THE GATE 03:55
AT THE GATE ©1979 AT THE GATE PUBLISHING SOCAN Change is unknown only to the dead The rest of us are changing day to day When the time comes we can change our lives It's as though we are standing at a gate Sometimes we try to push out ahead And leave behind us tears or love or hate Though they will always show in our eyes Still, we step toward the future at the gate Yes, we step toward the future at the gate I don't always know where I'm going At times I'm just a wind that is blowing And I choose my direction as I dare Tomorrow doesn't promise what will be But I know I'm getting there Getting there... If when I get there I seem satisfied And take for myself a pause to wait... Yet I foresee I'll be moving on, For I've learned... I am always at the gate Yes I've learned, I am always at the gate Mm... Always changing Like were standing at a gate Step toward the future Choose your direction

I'M ONLY COUNTRY ©1970 AT THE GATE PUBLISHING / SOCAN and Beechwood Music Corp. / BMI I'm only country; I take just what I'm due. I care a lot for living and I care a lot about you. I believe that air's for breathing; Grass was meant for pasture. I like to think we came from Him and Go to a hereafter. Country folks are raised with rules ' They know and understand... "Turned earth needs sowing and Trouble needs a helping hand." I reckon church was meant for praying; School were meant for learning. I like to think that nothing 'ccept A candle's meant for burning. Pay no mind to city gals with Legs 'long as your life… My first love was country; I want country for my wife. And I'm not in a hurry to Say goodbye to now… Soon will come tomorrow, and it's gone. Bless God for the day if you know how. 'No need to push; Tomorrow's going to come.

WITH NO ONE CARING ©1969 AT THE GATE PUBLISHING / SOCAN Is it possible for you to die? Is it possible with no one caring? …Not even staring? Is it possible for you to die? Do you think you could Lie back and cry? Do you think you could With no one caring? …Not even staring? Do you think you could Lie back and cry? Oh yeah… Do you think you could Be left alone? Do you think you could With no one caring? …Not even staring? Do you think you could Be left alone?

DOWN A ROAD AT SNOWDOWN ©1970 AT THE GATE PUBLISHING / SOCAN Walking down a road at snowdown, Thinking slowly, I slowly slow down. When I think from where I come, It makes me feel so good, it's no down. Walking up the path at sunset Paints me fire pictures I can't forget. When I look to where I go, It makes me feel so good inside you know. Laying on the head of the hill Where the grass is tall, oh... Sleepily following the cheery flight Of a blue backed swallow.

A DREAM IN YOU ©1972 AT THE GATE PUBLISHING / SOCAN Are we just wishing on a star, or Will our dream come true? Don't say, "Dreaming in sleep we are"... In your heart sleeps a dream in you. Would you dare to pack your gear And venture forth with me? Fancy seeing things we've heard About from sea to sea! It would seem, while we've the time, The very thing to do. Say we will, together, for I'd like to go with you! Mile on mile of rumbling rails Are set across this land. We could watch the timber From an iron caravan. Should we sail or should we paddle 'Round in a canoe? ...Watching beaver and listening For the ever laughing loon? Waiting for our treading feet are Morning city sidewalks; Briny breezes, mountain towns With sunny Sunday small talks. Meeting peaceful people we will Shake our neighbours' hands; We will watch the sun come rising O'er our new awakening land

HERE WITH ME ©1978 AT THE GATE PUBLISHING SOCAN Here with me is where you're meant to be When the night is come upon us And the sun's asleep That's when I want you lying here with me Words of love you softly say to me It's the music that you play for me Only I hear Darling I can see Here with me is where you're meant to be Here with me is where you're meant to be Cuando la noche nos envuelve Y el sol esta sonando Tu lugar tu lugar esta junto a mi Susurrando me palabras de amor Que para mi son música Solo yo puedo oír Querida yo siento Que tu debes quedarte conmigo Que tu debes quedarte conmigo Conmigo When you're here and holding on to me With love in your face Then I feel the many ways you care for me As you move you share yourself with me It's the dance of love you do with me Only I see When the morning comes you're with me And you come so near That's when I wish we'd always be right here You're so soft and warm while kissing me It's the food of love you have for me Only for me
